Countywide internet and cellular outage lingers
An internet outage detected Tuesday morning has again left much of Los Alamos County without reliable internet or cellphone service. The issue has affected service from major providers like Comcast, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Redi-net.
County officials Tuesday evening said in a news release the issue had been traced to a cut fiber optic line that is maintained by Lumen Technologies. The cut occurred during construction work north of Santa Fe, the release stated. Although a crew has been dispatched to splice the cable, county officials do not have an estimated time for repairs or restoration of service.
According to the news release, anyone in need of emergency services should still dial 9-1-1 and calls will be routed through Santa Fe. From there, dispatchers will coordinate with the Los Alamos Police and the Los Alamos Fire Department.
Public Wi-Fi spots are available at county facilities, including the Los Alamos County Municipal Building; Mesa Public Library; the White Rock Branch Library; and White Rock Fire Station 3.
The county said additional details will be shared with the public as they become available on the county’s emergency radio station AM 1610. Boomtown will continue to provide updates as we receive them as well.
